ARLINGTON, VA – Arlington Community Federal Credit Union (ACFCU) announced it is the recipient of the 2020 Arlington Cares Distinguished Corporate Service Award. Each year, Volunteer Arlington selects one private Arlington business or corporation, or an employee volunteer group thereof, that has shown outstanding commitment and care to the people of Arlington through volunteerism.

ACFCU was nominated for the award by nonprofit OAR of Arlington, Alexandria and Falls Church, citing the credit union’s year-round commitment to staff volunteerism and partnership with local nonprofits.

In 2019, ACFCU staff logged 275 volunteer hours, in addition to time contributed to service on 20 local nonprofit boards and committees. To create a culture of giving back, ACFCU gives employees up to eight hours of additional vacation time for volunteering, and many staff members serve well beyond those eight hours.

“It is a tremendous honor to receive the Distinguished Corporate Service Award from Volunteer Arlington,” stated Karen L. Rosales, ACFCU President and CEO. “Our entire team is passionate about giving back, and our volunteer program is just one way we are proud to support our community’s nonprofits in serving our Arlington neighbors.”

Lisa Fikes, Executive Director of Volunteer Arlington, remarked “We are thrilled to honor ACFCU for its remarkable and impactful work in our community. Their team is truly a model of civic engagement at its best.”

OAR’s Executive Director, Elizabeth Jones Valderrama, stated “ACFCU has been critical to OAR’s success through their many efforts to connect children in the community to their incarcerated parents. We are immensely grateful for the ongoing partnership.”

In addition to volunteerism and nonprofit board service, the credit union has long been known for its depth of involvement in the Arlington community through financial education for all ages, nonprofit partnerships, and charitable contributions.

Earlier in 2020, ACFCU was voted Best Community Bank by readers of Arlington Magazine – a repeat honor since 2016 – as well as Sun Gazette’s Best Bank of 2020, also voted by readers multiple times since 2016.

The Arlington Cares Awards will be held virtually on July 14, 2020. For details and a list of other Arlington Cares award recipients, visit https://volunteer.leadercenter.org/awards.
